Travel to Oxford

Oxford is centrally located in England, and is well served by rail and road links. The closest international airport is London Heathrow, although there are also good communication links with London Gatwick and Birmingham International.

By car | By air | By rail | By coach

By car
We regret that the conference organizers are unable to organize parking facilities for visitors. Although Oxford does have a number of Pay & Display car parks, parking is generally very difficult within the city centre. There are only a few Pay & Display spaces available in the vicinity of the University Museum and overnight parking is not very safe. You are strongly recommended to make use of Oxford’s Park and Ride facilities.

By air
All four major London airports (Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, and Stanstead) are conveniently accessible from Oxford, as is Birmingham International Airport.

The Oxford Bus Company runs regular dedicated coach services between central Oxford and both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Coaches arrive at and depart from Oxford’s Gloucester Green coach station, although passengers can also alight on the High Street, opposite Queen’s College.

Heathrow. Coaches leave every 30 mins peak, hourly off-peak; journey times are typically 80 minutes to the central bus station and 100 minutes to Terminal 4.
Click here for timetables and further details.

Gatwick. Coaches leave every hour peak, every two hours off-peak; journey times are typically about 120-150 mins to both the North and South terminals.
Click here for timetables and further details.

There are direct trains from Birmingham International Airport (Code: BHI) to Oxford Railway station (Code: OXF). For up to date timetables, please click here to visit the National Rail web site.

By rail
Oxford Railway Station is to the west of the city centre at the end of Park End Street. It is about 15 minutes walk from the conference area. Taxis are available for hire at the station. Stagecoach U1 buses, and Oxford Bus Company buses numbers 5 and 13 run regularly between the rail station and the city centre.

Trains from London to Oxford leave from Paddington. Regular West Coast mainline trains running between Birmingham and London stop at Oxford station, in addition to numerous regional trains. For up to date timetables and further booking information, please click here to visit the National Rail web site. (Note that the three-letter code for Oxford is OXF, and the code for London Paddington is PAD).

By coach
The Oxford Tube and Oxford Express coach services run 24 hours a day between central London and central Oxford, with several convenient stops in both cities. Coaches typically depart every 15 mins during peak day times and at differing intervals during off-peak times. Journey time is typically about 100 minutes, but is dependent upon traffic conditions. Coaches arrive at Oxford’s Gloucester Green coach station, although passengers can also alight on the High Street, opposite Queen’s College. There is a taxi rank close to the bus station.
